Students

Academic dishonesty (cheating or plagiarism) means taking credit for the words or ideas of someone else. Plagiarism , cheating, or any other form of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Policies on cheating and plagiarism are published in the syllabus for each class. Below is a list of examples of academic dishonesty. Not every form of academic dishonesty is listed here.

• Copying someone else’s work from current or previous years
• Sharing your work with someone else
• Using any aid (such as notes, a calculator, a textbook, AI technology, cell phone, (unless teacher allows)
• Writing a report or completing classwork/homework for someone else
• Giving or receiving answers verbally or through signals, writing or technology (including cell phones or other electronic devices)
• Possessing an electronic device including a cell phone during an established testing environment without the explicit permission of the teacher
• Plagiarism – Copying all or part of an electronic or print source without quotation marks and proper citation (copying more than five consecutive words from a source is considered to be plagiarism) 
• Plagiarism - Copying all or part of another student’s paper 
• Plagiarism - Using a translator to produce phrases or sentences in another language
• Plagiarism - Paraphrasing a specific source without proper citation

Consequences

The consequences for academic dishonesty on a major or minor assignment are as follows:

First incident

• The assignment may receive a zero
• Parents and administration are notified

Subsequent incidents

• The assignment will receive a zero
• Parents and administration are notified
• Further disciplinary action may be taken

Important: Distribution of a major assignment will result in a minimum three-day suspension and a non-negotiable zero on the assignment.

The consequences for academic dishonesty on a final exam are as follows:

• Final exam receives a non-negotiable zero
• Parents and administration are notified
• Further disciplinary action may be taken

Chatfield emphasizes the importance of appropriate student conduct to provide a safe, orderly, and respectful climate in which students can learn and teachers can teach.

All students have access to the Jeffco Public Schools Student and Family Handbook and Chatfield Student Conduct Codes through this website. Students are expected to review these materials with their parents. 

The Jeffco conduct code includes all Jeffco school policies related to student conduct and discipline. There are serious consequences for breaking rules of conduct, and these consequences are outlined in the Conduct Code. Many behavior infractions carry mandatory consequences. These consequences must and will be enforced at CSH. The administration will implement the requirements of the conduct code consistently, fairly and in compliance with district mandates and policies.

Students are expected to behave responsibly while at school and school-sponsored events (on or off school grounds). All school district discipline policies apply to behavior on or off school grounds during the school day (including off-campus lunches), at school activities and while riding school district transportation.
This includes:

• Following rules and respecting the rights of others with no harassment/bullying
• Avoiding the use, possession, or distribution of drugs including drug paraphernalia, alcohol or tobacco (Any cigarettes, lighters, vape pen/mods found at school will be destroyed)
• Attending all classes and following CSH attendance procedures
• Following the CSH and district dress code
• Respecting the property of the school and others
• Following directives of school personnel
• Displaying pride in the school and community through your actions
• Behaving responsibly while in the community
• Avoiding the use/possession of weapons and reporting any dangerous behavior
• Avoiding the use of profanity
• Avoiding any other behaviors that would be considered a serious violation as determined by the school’s administration
• Refraining from selling anything at school that is not an administratively approved fundraiser
• Reviewing and following the specific conduct guidelines as specified in the district Code of Conduct and CSH Student Handbook

Consequences for violating school or district discipline policies may include community service, detention, suspension, expulsion, police involvement and/or any actions deemed appropriate by the CSH administration.

Grounds for suspension or expulsion are addressed in the conduct code booklet under district policy JKDA/JKEA.

Chatfield is a one to one school, and the use of cell phones and similar electronic devices are not necessary in the classroom. We know students learn better when they are engaged in their surroundings and not actively on thier phone; time at school is limited and every moment counts. We know that we build a strong community of collaborative learners when distractions are minimized.

Staff are asked to have students put cell phones, earbuds, smart watches and/or similar electronic devices in the designated cell phone holders unless otherwise specified by the teacher for an academic reason. Students violeting this policy are expected to surrender their phone or device when asked by a staff member. If a student refused to surrender their phone or device, it is an immediate referral to the office. For habitual or deceptive violation of this policy, further consequences will result. Considerations for students needing a phone for a medical reason (i.e. diabetes) will be addressed on an individual basis.

If students choose to bring these expense items to school, Chatfield will no investigate lost or stoen items of this sort. Students will be referred to the Jeffco County Sheriff's Department for any follow-up investigation. Please do not bring these electoric devices and expensive items to school.

Computers are available for school-related academic purposes only. All computers having Internet access must be used in a responsible, efficient, ethical and legal manner. Failure to adhere to district policy will result in revocation of access privileges, restitution for costs associated with damages, possible disciplinary action (including suspension or expulsion), or legal action. Information regarding “Acceptable Use” is presented to students during the code of conduct presentations at the beginning of the year. 

Chatfield is committed to cultivating a culture of belonging and inclusive environment where all people feel appreciated, validated, accepted, and treated fairly. When we create a culture of dignity, it leads to a culture of belonging which increases engagement and inclusion which results in achievement. Therefore, we all, district employees and students, share the responsibility to ensure that harassment does not occur at any school in the district, on any district property, or at any school-sanctioned activity or event on or off school property.

To dehumanize someone is to make a person or group feel or appear less than human. Harassing conduct may include dehumanizing language, epithets, slurs, or negative stereotyping threatening or intimidating acts, denigrating jokes or writing or graphic material that denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward an individual or group that is placed on walls or elsewhere on school property or circulated by email, phone, text messages, social networking sites, or other means.

Chatfield Senior High's student dress code supports equitable educational access and is written in a manner that does not reinforce stereotypes. Students should be able to dress and style their hair for school in a manner that expresses their individuality without fear of unnecessary discipline or body shaming. While students are all afforded the right to appropriate expression, all students also have a right to an equitable education. Our dress code is meant to set a standard for students that learning environments should be given respect and prepares them for a professional environment as adults.

• Posters or signs must be neatly designed and positively reflect the organization and the school
• Posters or signs must be written clearly with correct spelling and grammar
• Posters or signs may not include any obscenities or offensive language
• Posters or signs must be approved by the school activities director, Ms. Hitchens, and be stamped in the lower right-hand corner
• Posters or signs must be removed one day after the activity
• All posters or signs must be related to the curriculum or a school-sponsored activity
• Mass production of posters and signs is not allowed. Flyers may not be handed out to students
• No commercial advertising is allowed

Honor Roll

Based on the previous semester’s work at CSH:

• Students must have a CPA of 3.5-4.0 or higher based on semester grades. This is not a cumulative GPA
• Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 2.5 credits and have grades in a minimum of five classes.

Academic Letter 

The criteria for earning an academic letter at CSH:

• Earning a 4.0 or higher for an entire academic school year while maintaining a full class schedule for both semesters, or
• Earning a qualifying cumulative GPA of:
  •  4.0 or above at the end of the freshman year.
  •  3.8 or above at the end of the sophomore year.
  •  3.7 or above at the end of the junior year.

Besides the necessary GPA, the following conditions must also be met:

• Only grades earned at CSH will count toward earning an academic letter
• Student must have attended Chatfield for a minimum of two semesters.
