Credit Recovery
Second Chance Credit Recovery at Chatfield
Second Chance is a credit recovery program that provides students who fail a class the opportunity to meet the standards required for a passing grade (D) in one course in an accelerated manner. This is a student led credit recovery effort wherein students are expected to register themselves, be proactive, communicative, and advocate for themselves directly with their Second Chance instructor and/or the administrator, Ms. O'Dougherty.
-
All communication including email confirmation and notification of passing is received via student Jeffco Gmail accounts.
-
In order to pass, students must complete all required work by the final day of Second Chance and will receive an email from their instructor.
-
Please note, the passing grade change will be evident on students' transcripts, not Infinite Campus.
In order to be eligible...
-
10 or fewer total absences/tardies (excused or unexcused) during the semester in the course
If students are missing ample class time, they are also missing essential instruction and core skills.
*Student advocacy is the center of this program and goes a long way when communicating with Second Chance teachers/administration.
Option Schools, Credit Recovery
Jeffco has a variety of options for students who need credit to graduate. For example, seniors can talk to their counselor about Graduate on Time (GOT) through McLain High School.
Credit Recovery in Jeffco
Jeffco Public Schools knows that students may experience challenges that impact their progress toward graduation. We care deeply about helping every student and family understand the options available to get back on track and move forward with confidence.
Credit recovery gives students an opportunity to make up credits needed for graduation. Options may look different by school, so the best first step is to contact your student’s school counselor. Your school counselor knows your student, understands the school’s available supports, and can help explain the best options for your student’s path.
Counselor phone numbers and email addresses can be found on your school’s website.
If you have already connected with your school and would like additional guidance, you may also contact Jeffco’s Student Engagement Office to consult with a student engagement advocate.
