Summer Chromebook Information

Chatfield Chromebook Initiative Summer 2020 Update:

All freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be responsible for taking their school or district issued 1-to-1 Chromebooks home over the summer. We will not be collecting them! Here are some tips so that they will be in good shape for students to use when they return in August:

Chromebook Use

  • Feel free to use your Chromebook over the summer! Obviously students will most likely not be using them for school purposes (unless they take a summer class), but using them for personal use in the summer is just fine.
  • If you plan on using your Chromebook for personal use over the summer, just remember that it is still filtered and monitored. Using it to stream videos (Netflix, Hulu, etc) or music is perfectly acceptable and will not be blocked. But remember that browsing inappropriate sites will still be blocked to the best of the district’s ability. It is still the responsibility of parents to ensure students are observing safe internet practices.
  • If you don’t plan on using it, you can put it in long-term storage mode to preserve the battery and overall life of the Chromebook.

Warranty

  • Students who have the Jeffco issued Tech4Ed Lenovo 300e Chromebook (the ones with the touch screen) can still purchase the Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) from DHE/Lenovo. Prices go up June 1st so act now!! This would apply to all current freshmen and any sophomores or juniors that were new to Chatfield in the 2019-2020 school year who got one issued to them from the library.

Vacation Time

  • It would be best to not take the Chromebook with you on vacation since the likelihood of damage/theft/loss occurring is much higher.

Damage

  • Any damage to the Chromebook should be reported to the school upon the start of school in August. Families will be responsible for repair costs or replacement costs that occur due to damage or loss of the Chromebook. Need a repair or you are moving? Here is a link to the Jeffco Summer Technology Guide.

Lost Charger

  • Off brands or chargers can ruin the motherboard of your chromebook. If you have lost your charger and need to purchase a new one, please purchase this one from Amazon.

Lost or Stolen Chromebook

  • If the Chromebook is lost or stolen during the summer, please email [email protected] immediately upon discovering that it is missing. Jim will check emails periodically and will report this to the district so the device can be placed in an unusable “lost” mode. This includes our school address and phone number showing up on the screen when someone tries to use it so it can be returned
